Flosstradomus

Flosstradamus

Flosstradamus is the duo of two Chicago DJ’s/Producers J2K (Josh Young) and Autobot (Curt Cameruci) and these guys absolutely kill it. They incorporate elements of Hip-Hop, dubstep, electronic into some serious tunes. Some call it trapstep, but I think it is harder to classify. I’m going to post a few of my personal favorite Flosstradamus tunes for you to enjoy.

Original Don-Major Lazer (Flosstradamus Remix)

This is and absolute banger. Make sure you play it on some nice speakers or headphones for full effect.

This song combines rap lyrics, gentle vocals and sweeping synths for a truly chill track

This song is just absolutely ridiculous. Combine Lil Jon, Kernkraft 400 and Sandstorm and this is one rowdy fucking song.

Finally Total Recall has got hip-hop influences, great sampling and a progressive beat. Make sure you listen to this on good speakers or headphones to really appreciate the depth to this song.

Sol- Yours Truly

Seattle MC Sol Moravia-Rosenberg, otherwise known as Sol, has been in the rap game since 2008 and is finally starting to get the attention he deserves. His first EP, The Ride, had glimmers of Sol’s real talent, encapsulated on the song Spliff (feat. Philharmonic). Since then, Sol has released 3 different parts of the EP titled, Dear Friends. Here is the video for the title track from the EP, and it should give you an idea of Sol’s style and flow. If you like it, download below.

His newest release, Yours Truly, came out in January and shows that Sol has really come into his talent as both an MC and a producer. The first single Stage Dive is an absolute summer staple and Sol’s flow is quite unique. The title track has a softer side that Sol shows us and his lyrics tell us why. Check out this guy before someone else tells you about him first.

Cinémetropolis- Blue Scholars

From the critically acclaimed 2011 album by the Blue Scholars, Cinemetropolis, I give you the title track which should surely make you want to buy the whole record. This song is full of musical genius and the rapping isn’t bad either, in fact its pretty good. To be honest I do not know how this one slipped through the cracks, but definitely give it a listen and don’t miss out.

Tyler Thomas

Coming out of Southern California and a student at the University of Arizona, 20 year old independent rapper Tyler Thomas might be the best guy you have never heard of. His rhymes are intelligent and his flow impeccable. He has style and rhythm and he is still so young. But enough from me, I’ll let him do the talking. Check out this snippet of his up and coming track 95.

Here is another song from Tyler and Jake Broido (also a U of A student) called Whiskey On the Rocks. The video is well cut, the beat is funky, and Tyler’s raps are as slick as the suits in the video. Check this tune out for a funky party jam and keep and eye on Tyler Thomas.

Abstract Rude, Prevail, and Moka Only are..Code Name: Scorpion

From the subterranean regions of Hip-Hop and formed from broken pieces of other acts, comes Code Name: Scorpion. Their title album was released in 2001 and would prove to be there only record. Nonetheless this album is jam packed full of dope cuts and this one, Jam Packed, in no exception. With a funky guitar riff and some of the best flows I’ve heard in a while, Code Name: Scorpion is one Hip-Hop group I wish I could hear today. Check em out for sure, shout out to my boy chaz for the tip. Hip-Hop head must have.

Moka- “Weigh station overload, heavyweight, and snap the scale
Scorp sting, Moka Only, Ab, Prevail
What to expect but a neck breaking G-force
You get taken off course
Deep water, sea horse”

Maybe One Day- Blu & Exile

Dropping as the first track released off the sophomore album from the amazing Hip-Hop duo that impressed us with Below the Heavens in 2007, Maybe One Day is the title track on the new EP thats offbeat tempo speaks to the theme as much as Blu’s lines. If you are a real Hip-Hop head this is a must have, and a strong indication that Blu & Exile still have much more to come. Check it out while it’s hot.

All I Do- Logic

Image

With some quality samples and fluid raps, Logic’s sophomore mixtape Young Sinatra certainly shows he is ready to step it up to the big leagues and has something going that rap fan’s will definitely like. My favorite track off the mixtape, All I Do, is produced by DJ Black Diamond who produced Mac Miller’s popular track Nikes on My Feet. Although similarities arise in the music, the raps Logic provides are all their own. You can download the whole mixtape here or if that isn’t for you, then just check out All I Do for a solid Hip-Hop cut.
